PEOPLE there seem to be lying low
On wood that is not smooth, these people carry the markings of the First Nation carvers that taught me to reach into the fibers of the wood, to create their portraits. They taught me to release the intensity of these persons.
I needed large formats on stiff wood to tell this story, not delicate paper or pale canvas. I needed natural grain to tell the nature of these people.
